The Complete Saga
Book Collection
Following the Cataclysm, Krynn is plunged into centuries of chaos, famine, and political ruin. The gods seemingly abandon the world, and magic becomes feared or forgotten. Faith shatters, and the people turn to survival. This is the era in which the Chronicles trilogy begins. The return of the dragons and the rediscovery of divine and arcane magic signal a slow but vital rebirth of hope. The War of the Lance becomes a pivotal event, restoring balance to the world and reuniting mortals with the gods. Still, wounds from the Cataclysm run deep, and the struggle between good and evil remains far from over.
Join the Companions of the Lance on their third high fantasy adventure in the Dragonlance Chronicles, set in the beloved Dungeons & Dragons universe.
Will truth and virtue triumph over the deadly darkness of an all-consuming evil?
The war against the dragon minions of Queen Takhisis rages on. Armed with the mysterious, magical Dragon Orbs and the shining, silver Dragonlance, the Companions of the Lance lead their people in a desperate final battle. Knight and barbarian, warrior and mage, dwarf and kender—no one has reckoned how high the price of defeat, or even victory, might be.
But now, in the dawn of a new day, the dark secrets that have long shadowed the hearts of the Companions come to light. If they are to truly defeat the five-headed dragon goddess, they must find a way to overcome their own personal conflicts and doubts. From betrayal and treachery to fragility and weakness, the greatest battle now lies within each of them.
Following the death of the Dragon Highlord Verminaard and the freeing of Pax Tharkas, the companions are scattered across Krynn. War rages as Takhisis’s Dragonarmies continue their conquest, and the gods of good have begun to return. The forces of light rally behind new leaders—some reluctant, some transformed.
Tanis Half-Elven finds himself caught in a dangerous role: he has infiltrated the Dragonarmies and become the consort of Kitiara uth Matar, a Dragon Highlord and former companion. Torn between loyalty and love, Tanis plays a deadly game of deception, all while longing to reunite with Laurana, the elven princess who has emerged as a heroic leader in her own right.
Meanwhile, Laurana is captured by Kitiara through a ruse involving a false truce. She is taken to Neraka, the heart of Takhisis's power, to be used as bait in a final trap. Flint, Tasslehoff, and Caramon regroup to rescue her and rally with others who have taken up the cause. The companions discover that the Blue Crystal Staff and the Disks of Mishakal have rekindled faith in the true gods, and now dragonlances—weapons powerful enough to kill dragons—are being forged once more.
As the companions race toward Neraka, Raistlin Majere walks a darker path. Now a powerful black-robed mage, he allies himself with Takhisis’s inner circle—but his loyalty is a facade. Raistlin is using the chaos of war to further his own goals, manipulating friend and foe alike. His actions increasingly blur the line between heroism and ambition. He is neither for good nor evil—only for himself.
In the novel’s climax, all storylines converge at Neraka, where a ritual to bring Takhisis bodily into the world is underway. Tanis reaches Laurana just as she is to be sacrificed, and in a bold moment of defiance, kills Emperor Ariakas, disrupting the ceremony. The companions escape with Laurana, and the ritual fails—Takhisis cannot enter Krynn.
Raistlin, however, walks away from the battle alone. His final betrayal of the Queen of Darkness is both brilliant and chilling. With his ambitions undiscovered, he seizes the Black Robes’ power and sets the stage for his own dark journey in the Legends trilogy.
Dragons of Spring Dawning explores the culmination of individual character arcs—heroism, sacrifice, temptation, and transformation. Laurana matures into a true leader, Caramon begins to question his dependency on his brother, and Tanis makes peace with his divided heritage. But it is Raistlin who leaves the most haunting impression: a man who saves the world not out of love or duty, but because it suits his larger, secret purpose.
The book concludes the War of the Lance and solidifies the companions' place in Krynn’s history. Yet it also opens new doors—especially for Raistlin, whose journey is only beginning.
