The Complete Saga
Book Collection
Following the Cataclysm, Krynn is plunged into centuries of chaos, famine, and political ruin. The gods seemingly abandon the world, and magic becomes feared or forgotten. Faith shatters, and the people turn to survival. This is the era in which the Chronicles trilogy begins. The return of the dragons and the rediscovery of divine and arcane magic signal a slow but vital rebirth of hope. The War of the Lance becomes a pivotal event, restoring balance to the world and reuniting mortals with the gods. Still, wounds from the Cataclysm run deep, and the struggle between good and evil remains far from over.
Summer has come to Krynn, a summer unlike any before. The sun bears down on land and sea, searing the world with relentless light and heat. Clouds and rain are nowhere to be found, and even the darkness of night brings little relief from the strange and oppressive day.
Meanwhile, those who commune regularly with their gods are uneasy. Every day, their deities become more distant, more difficult to reach. Clerics' prayers go unanswered, and magic goes awry. As the tension on Ansalon builds, estranged cousins Palin Majere and Steel Brightblade search for an explanation. It soon becomes evident that more than just magic is at stake. The fate of all Krynn hangs in the balance.
The world has changed since the War of the Lance, but peace proves fragile on Krynn. In the wake of shifting alliances, rediscovered faiths, and rising ambitions, a new threat emerges—one that will not only test the children of the old heroes but alter the very structure of the world itself. Dragons of Summer Flame tells the story of this new crisis, one rooted in both legacy and cataclysm, and marks the transition into the next age of Krynn.
The novel centers around Palin Majere, nephew of Raistlin and now a fully tested white-robed mage, and Steel Brightblade, son of Sturm and Kitiara, who has embraced the path of the Knights of Takhisis. They are joined by Usha, a mysterious woman believed to be the daughter of Raistlin himself—though her origins are shrouded in doubt and myth. As tensions rise across Ansalon, a new generation must reckon with the consequences of choices made before their time.
At the heart of the turmoil is the reawakening of the Knights of Takhisis, now organized under a new vision of conquest and control. These knights, once tools of tyranny, are now legitimized and rising in power. But they are not the only threat. The gods of magic sense an imbalance in the world, one tied to the mysterious Graygem of Gargath, an ancient artifact of chaos whose energies ripple across time and fate.
As conflicts erupt, Theros Ironfeld, Dalamar, Goldmoon, and other familiar figures return, offering counsel or warning—but none can stop what’s coming. An army of beings born of chaos itself—the Chaos creatures—break through into Krynn, heralding the arrival of Chaos, the Father of All and of Nothing. This is no mere war for land or power; it is a battle for existence itself.
The world is torn apart. The Tower of High Sorcery in Palanthas falls. The gods are forced to intervene, uniting in a last-ditch effort to protect creation. Palin and Usha confront Chaos, and in a moment of clarity and courage, Tasslehoff Burrfoot plays a pivotal role by disrupting Chaos’s perception of time. In doing so, he grants the gods just enough leverage to seal Chaos away—but at a terrible cost.
In the aftermath, the gods make a fateful decision: they withdraw from Krynn entirely, severing their influence in an effort to preserve free will and protect the world from further divine cataclysm. The world is left to its own devices. Magic, as it was known, vanishes. Clerical and wizardly powers fade. This is the dawn of the Age of Mortals.
Dragons of Summer Flame is a tale of reckoning, of gods and mortals, of legacy and transformation. It ends not with triumph, but with uncertainty—as old powers fade, and new ones rise in their place. Krynn is forever changed, and the next generation must face a world without the gods that shaped it.
