The Complete Saga
Book Collection
Following the Cataclysm, Krynn is plunged into centuries of chaos, famine, and political ruin. The gods seemingly abandon the world, and magic becomes feared or forgotten. Faith shatters, and the people turn to survival. This is the era in which the Chronicles trilogy begins. The return of the dragons and the rediscovery of divine and arcane magic signal a slow but vital rebirth of hope. The War of the Lance becomes a pivotal event, restoring balance to the world and reuniting mortals with the gods. Still, wounds from the Cataclysm run deep, and the struggle between good and evil remains far from over.
The Knights of Solamnia were the greatest order of chivalry in the history of Krynn.
After a knight has achieved the Order of the Crown and the Order of the Sword, he must then begin his training in the virtues of wisdom and justice in order to achieve the Order of the Rose, the highest of all orders.
This is the third tale of Sir Pirvan the Wayward, whose reluctant and inauspicious beginnings bore few clues to his potential as a knight of the highest order. In a time when others of Solamnia had become corrupt and self-serving, Sir Pirvan maintained the dignity of the Order, walking the fine line between personal codes of honor and loyalty, and diplomacy and duty.
Roland J. Green is the author of the Starcruiser Shenandoah and Wandor series and numerous Conan novels, and is coauthor (with Jerr Pournelle) of the Jannisaries series.
The Warriors series details the exploits of the heroes and villains of the War of the Lance.
Knights of the Rose, the fifth volume in the Dragonlance: Warriors series by Roland J. Green, continues the journey of Sir Pirvan the Wayward, a former thief turned knight whose path of redemption has already taken him through the Orders of the Crown and the Sword. Now, Pirvan seeks admittance into the highest tier of the Solamnic knighthood: the Order of the Rose.
The story follows Pirvan as he is assigned to defend a strategically important fortress, which has become a haven for a diverse community of people living in rare harmony. This peaceful coexistence is soon threatened by both external and internal forces. Greedy lords, political schemers, and rival knights with questionable motives aim to seize the fortress and disrupt the balance Pirvan is trying to protect.
As tensions rise, Pirvan must balance the ideals of honor and justice with the messy realities of leadership and diplomacy. He is once again joined by his steadfast companions: his wife Haimya, a skilled and loyal warrior in her own right; Tarothin, the enigmatic and wise mage; and Waydol, the ever-curious and unpredictable kender. Together, they face challenges that test not only their combat prowess but also their convictions and ability to unify fractured interests.
Throughout the novel, Pirvan grapples with what it truly means to be a Knight of the Rose—not just in title, but in spirit. He must make difficult decisions, mediate between conflicting parties, and demonstrate not just courage, but compassion and wisdom. The political stakes are high, and the personal risks are even greater, as Pirvan’s every action is weighed against the code he has sworn to uphold.
Knights of the Rose is a story of maturity, responsibility, and the pursuit of noble ideals in a world that often resists them. It explores the burden of command and the cost of staying true to one’s principles in the face of temptation, betrayal, and war. Pirvan’s journey is not only one of outward achievement but also of inner transformation, as he strives to become the kind of knight who can lead by example and bring lasting peace to those he protects.
This novel deepens the themes of honor and redemption that have shaped Pirvan’s arc and continues to explore the rich political and moral landscape of the Dragonlance universe.
