The Complete Saga
Book Collection
Following the Cataclysm, Krynn is plunged into centuries of chaos, famine, and political ruin. The gods seemingly abandon the world, and magic becomes feared or forgotten. Faith shatters, and the people turn to survival. This is the era in which the Chronicles trilogy begins. The return of the dragons and the rediscovery of divine and arcane magic signal a slow but vital rebirth of hope. The War of the Lance becomes a pivotal event, restoring balance to the world and reuniting mortals with the gods. Still, wounds from the Cataclysm run deep, and the struggle between good and evil remains far from over.
The greatest order of chivalry in the history of Krynn. After a knight has achieved the Order of the Crown, he must then begin his training in the virtues of courage and heroism in order to achieve the Order of the Sword. This is the second tale of Sir Pirvan the Wayward, whose reluctant and inauspicious beginnings bore few clues to his potential as a Knight of the Sword or as a Knight of the Crown, nor as a mentor for another similarly dubious prospect for Krynn's greatest order of chivalry. Roland J. Green is the author of the Starcruiser Shenandoah and Wandor series and numerous Conan novels, and is coauthor (with Jerr Pournelle) of the Jannisaries series. The Warriors series details the exploits of the heroes and villains of the War of the Lance.
Knights of the Sword, the third volume in the Dragonlance: Warriors series by Roland J. Green, continues the story of Sir Pirvan the Wayward, a former thief who has risen to become a Knight of the Crown. Set in the world of Krynn, the novel follows Pirvan’s continued journey of redemption and growth as he strives to earn a place in the more prestigious Order of the Sword, a branch of the Knights of Solamnia dedicated to justice and heroism.
In this installment, Pirvan is sent on a diplomatic mission to the island nation of Karthay, where tensions are mounting due to the expansionist ambitions of the Empire of Istar. At the same time, internal conflict within the minotaur hierarchy—between a power-hungry leader and his ambitious heir—threatens to plunge the region into war. Pirvan is charged with preventing the outbreak of open conflict, a task that requires not only martial skill but the delicate art of diplomacy.
Accompanying Pirvan are his loyal companions: his wife Haimya, a skilled and capable warrior in her own right; Rubina, a fellow knight with unshakeable resolve; Tarothin, a mysterious and learned mage; and Waydol, a curious and unpredictable kender. Together, this diverse group faces a series of challenges, including political intrigue, dangerous missions, and cultural tensions among the various factions involved.
As Pirvan attempts to negotiate peace and navigate the minefield of competing interests, he must also confront personal doubts and the lingering perception of his past as a thief. The mission tests his integrity, his leadership, and his commitment to the ideals of the knighthood he now serves.
The novel explores themes such as duty, honor, redemption, and the difficulty of living up to a code of ethics in a world filled with corruption and violence. Pirvan's development as a character is central to the story—he is no longer the reluctant knight of the past, but a man striving to embody the higher virtues expected of a Knight of the Sword.
Though some readers have pointed out minor inconsistencies in continuity compared to earlier entries, Knights of the Sword offers an engaging tale of growth, diplomacy, and the struggle to bring order and justice to a fractured world. It expands upon the Dragonlance universe by exploring the complexities of knighthood and the moral challenges faced by those who seek to uphold peace amidst rising chaos.
